Don’t Miss This!
Mark your calendar, and plan to attend the club’s fundraising auction on Thursday, October 12! It’ll be a fun night at Cantigny Park and a very important night for our club. Cantigny Park is located in Wheaton on Winfield Road, south of Roosevelt, at 1S151. Parking is free for this evening event.
Note: In addition to cash and check,
CREDIT CARDS can be used to pay for auction items.
All other payments (Bazaar, Raffle) must be made via cash or check.
Support YOUR club and all that we do!
The auction, held every other year, is DBC’s only major fundraising activity and your chance to support the excellent programs you enjoy as a member. We’ve kept dues low so that more members can enjoy our speakers, field trips, spring and winter bird counts, lending library, and other benefits. Auction proceeds enable us to keep it all going AND allow us to give something back to the birds and the organizations that help conserve them. This year, part of the proceeds of the auction will go to assist a project at Fermilab: to construct a birding observation platform along the east shore of A.E. Sea to allow better viewing of the lake and birds while protecting the shoreline. What will you go home with?
This is your chance to bid on a wide range of birding items donated by merchants, DBC members, and conservation-related organizations. Look for original artwork, photographs, feeders, bird houses, seed, memberships, subscriptions, apparel, birding books, software, and gadgets. You can even win a personal field trip led by one of DBC’s or other local expert birders!
Please come early, 6:15 p.m., to survey the live-auction merchandise and browse the always popular “Birder’s Bazaar.” Tables around the room will be loaded with items priced at $1, $3, $5, $10, or >$10. You’re sure to find great deals on gently-used books, art, and birding knickknacks.
Finally, you’ll love the DBC Raffle. You’ll get a free ticket when you register and get your bid number. Then you can improve your chances by purchasing a few additional tickets. Winners will get to choose from a wide array of new merchandise and gift certificates. Bring a friend who’s not a club member and you get an extra raffle ticket!
Did we mention the CASH BAR?
That’s another good reason to arrive early! Cantigny’s famous fresh-baked cookies will be served, too, free of charge.
We are not collecting and storing items for the Birder’s Bazaar ahead of time this year. Instead, you are encouraged to bring gently-used items for the Birder’s Bazaar tables directly to Cantigny on October 12, but PLEASE arrive early if doing so, between 5:00 and 6:00 p.m. Please attach your name to the item, box, or bag you bring and include a list with a VERY brief description for each item and which table ($1, $3, $5, $10, or >$10) you think it should go on to help our volunteers place items on the $$ tables. If you know by September 15 what you will be donating for the Birder’s Bazaar, please send the list of items by email to Davida Kalina at email@example.com to enable us to recognize donors in the program. Please do not bring used bird houses, bird baths, or feeders.
If you have a new item for the live auction, please contact Davida Kalina at firstname.lastname@example.org. We need these items BY September 15, so that we can recognize the donors in the program! Please print out our donation-solicitation letter following this article, and bring it to your favorite store—but check with Davida first, though, so we don’t bombard the same few vendors.
See you on Auction Night!
The fun begins at 7 p.m. Please arrive early to register, preview the auction items, and browse the Birder’s Bazaar. Live bidding commences at 7:30 p.m., starting with The Thumb Warmer!
